the really handsome golden/strawberry tiger in a full profile pose.
When I was little I thought white tigers were THE COOLEST THING. The Detroit Zoo had some and I thought it was so awesome (I pretty much thought the Detroit Zoo was the best place in the world, maaaybe second to Disney World). Then I learned about all the inbreeding that happens just to keep the mutation that makes them white going, and how it results in genetically unhealthy tigers, and I was a little ashamed, but mostly I felt like somebody had told the toddler version of me a HUGE lie. Which they kind of did!
But this guy, okay, that looks awesome. I just want to know, if anybody can tell me: is this a naturally occurring occasional mutation, or is it manipulated like the white tigers?
Of course in any case it’s not the fault of the tigers for the way they were born, and nothing could make me stop loving all of the tigers. All of them. I just would really like to know!
(Also I’ve in general developed a better appreciation for their natural coloring. Orange looks best on a tiger, okay.)
